5 Year Lectureship at University of Tokyo

The Department of Philosophy, the University of Tokyo intends to elect one Regular Lecturer in Philosophy from the 1st of October 2011 for a period of FIVE years. The department welcomes applications from suitably qualified persons satisfying all of the following four conditions:

1) Within five years since completing PhD (or applicants who are about to complete their PhD or who have a sufficient research record may also be considered)

2) Has conducted studies of philosophy in English

3) Able to give lectures and seminars in English (Japanese language ability is NOT required)

4) Has worked (preferably in the context ofAnalytic Philosophy) on either epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of logic, or moral philosophy

Applications should consist of the following four kinds of documents:

a) full curriculum vitae (including a list of works and a photo of face)

b) a short summary of applicant’s research (within one page)

c) one or two published papers

d) two signed letters of reference

As to the documents a), b), and c), applicants should send these in the form of (scanned) PDF files to Professor Masaki Ichinose through e-mail (see the address below). As to d), i.e. letters of reference, referees should kindly send them likewise in the form of (scanned) PDF files to Professor Masaki Ichinose through e-mail. However, we can also accept the sealed, signed letters of reference sent through snail-mail. All documents should be received no later than Tuesday, the 30th of November, 2010 (Japanese time). Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Please note the possibility that selected candidates may be invited to interview in Tokyo in January or February of 2011. Travel expenses will be (at least partly) paid by the University of Tokyo.
