Bitesize ethics: Who gets to use my face? The ethics of deepfakes

This mini-series provides a short introduction to practical ethics, looking at some of the issues that concern philosophers and the public alike today.

In this class, led by Prof Anders Sandberg, we will consider the ethics of deepfakes. Thanks to advances in machine learning it has become practical to fairly convincingly place one person's face and voice on another person in video, "deepfakes".
This has led to much furore: fake pornography has not just been used for titillation but for political harassment. But are there deeper ethical problems than mere maliciousness? A world where truth becomes impossible to discern? Do we have a right
to control how our appearance is used?
