Becky is a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Uehiro Centre and a Research Associate at Wadham College. Becky’s work focuses on ethical and philosophical issues in public health. In particular, she works on the ethics of health promotions interventions, such as efforts to encourage dietary change, physical activity and smoking cessation. This includes a consideration of whether or not people are responsible for such behaviours, and how responsibility should influence healthcare provision. Becky is also interested in epistemological questions in medicine, and how uncertainty about the quality of clinical research should affect medical decision making. Becky is PI on the project ‘Honesty in Public Health Communication’ which is funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Work on this project considers whether or not ethical public health communication needs to be honest, and what honesty involves in this context.
